About
Hi! I'm Emily.
I created EmmyLou Farr in late 2020 after collaborating with a dear friend to hand-make over 600 tie-dyed and screen-printed shirts in about a month. My home started bursting at the seams with colorful creations and I realized (read: I was informed by my beloved husband) that I needed to find new homes for them all.
I come from an extremely creative family where we were always encouraged to explore, make mistakes, and follow our creativity down the rabbit hole. My mom is an artist who works in various mediums including fiber arts, and my dad is a woodworker. After years working in food, events, and marketing and treating art more as a hobby than a career, I finally realized it was time to take things to the next level -- oh, and COVID helped with that realization too.
After years of working with traditional tie dye as a fun and carefree summertime activity, I discovered the ice dye technique and fell in love with it. I love how a seemingly careless applcation of dye can create blended hues and romantic, floral patterns.
I've found that my heart is happiest when I'm creating special, one-of-a-kind treasures for my customers. I don't love making a style and then mechanically recreating it. I welcome custom orders, collaborations, and other fun and funky projects where my creativity can soar.
I make all my creations at my studio in Novato, CA where I live with my husband, two amazing step-kids, a pair of badass tabbies from the streets of Oakland, and one very stubborn basset hound named Walter.
You buy it, I'll dye it
Purchase your own white cotton items to have hand-dyed, or send me old white items that need a new life! I’ll happily dye anything you want, whether it’s a pair of designer jeans or some old sheets that need a new lease on life.
